Students at the High School of Fashion Industries completed a survey asking questions about how they feel and what help they may need this semester. The results were analyzed and shared with our wellness teams to meet our students where they are and provide the necessary supports inside and outside of classrooms to see our students flourish.
Two primary areas of focus are around student belongingness and if students feel their classmates care about them.
Of the 1351 students who took the survey, 20% said they strongly agree and 72% said they agree with the statement "I feel like I belong at HSFI" with the highest percentage of strongly agree in the 12th grade. Overall less than 8% of students indicated they don't feel a sense of belonging at the school and we're planning a variety of interventions and supports for these students. Some ways students feel belonging at HSFI are through their classrooms, engaging in their majors, and participating in extracurriculars such as clubs and PSAL sports teams.
Of the 1351 students who took the survey, 10% said they strongly agree and 70% said they agree with the statement "I feel like my HSFI classmates care about me" with the highest percentage of strongly agree (17%) in the 12th grade. Overall, 2% of students strongly disagreed with this statement and 18% disagreed. The lower level of agreement from the 9th grade with this statement aligns with prior years as first year students new to HSFI take time to get to know their peers and feel genuine care that is strongly felt by the time they are in their fourth year of high school.
HSFI always uses data to take the pulse on where our school is currently situated as we work together in a variety of settings to move our school closer to our ideal. We look forward to seeing the progress when we ask these questions again in the Spring semester.
