Ms. Gerasimovich took her 9th Grade Global History students to The China Institute for a day of art and learning.
At The China Institute, students were treated to a guided tour of their current exhibition, Metamorphisis: Chinese Imagination and Transformation, which highlights works by 28 contemporary artists of Chinese descent, who explore themes of personal, cultural, historical and material metamorphosis in dynamic and innovative ways. Across painting, sculpture, photography, animation and installation art, these works by established and emerging artists of different generations and backgrounds use experimentation to draw on both Eastern and Western art-making practices and materials (chinainstitute.org).
After a guided tour, which also included a mini mediation session led by a certified instructor, students created their own works of art. Students participated in a Chinese ink painting workshop and learned about the history and process of Chinese ink painting. Students had a lot of fun creating their own works of art to take home.
During this trip, students were able to see the intersection between what they had learned in class about Ancient China and Chinese culture today. The artwork represented various historical themes and ideas from class, represented in modern ways. Students were able to learn more about how art can connect past and present, as well as have a hands on experience using an ancient art form to make a modern masterpiece of their own!

Recently HSFI partnered with NKBA Manhattan Chapter and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) for an inspiring morning with various industry professionals at the High School of Fashion Industries. This unique collaboration brought together a diverse group of professionals from critical fields like plumbing, advanced technology, detailed millwork, general contracting, specialty tile & stone, and electrical trades. The core mission was to forge a direct, meaningful connection between seasoned experts and the next generation of potential skilled workers. This initiative provided a vibrant platform for students to gain firsthand exposure to the vast and rewarding career opportunities available within these essential construction and design trades.
The event was a dynamic success, moving beyond simple presentations to offer truly engaging experiences. Students participated in lively icebreakers that quickly set an energetic tone, followed by focused hands-on networking sessions where they could speak directly with professionals about their daily work and career trajectories. The program was filled with practical career insights, mentorship, and real-world advice that resonated deeply with the participants. By the end of the morning, students weren't just informed; they were visibly motivated and excited to seriously explore the skilled trades as a viable and highly rewarding path for their futures, solidifying the event's role as a vital step in workforce development.

French Revolution Comic Strips
Noah Quinones, Global 3, period 6
Noah does it again! He exceeded my expectations with a beautifully detailed comic strip illustrating the first stage of the French Revolution. His work captures the people's desire to be heard, their attempts to collaborate with the monarchy, and the monarchy's ultimate downfall. Bravo, Noah outstanding work!
